A writer of fiction, translations, and essays, I have published in Collier’s, Harvard Review, The Kenyon Review, The Threepenny Review, and many other magazines and journals.  My short stories have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize (“The Hole That Dave Dug,” “My Life as Mark Wahlberg,” “A Christmas Letter”) and “Best of the Net” award (“Meat Dreams”).

A former Fulbright scholar to France, I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and an MPhil in English from the University of Oxford, and I spent time at Fundación Valparaíso, Spain as a Fiction Fellow.  I have taught writing and literature at the University of Portland, Pacific University, the University of California, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, the University of Virginia, Portland State University, Oregon State University, Portland Literary Arts, and Gotham Writers’ Workshop.  I have also done editorial work for Zoetrope: All-Story.
