A writer of fiction, nonfiction, and translations, I have published in Collier’s, Harvard Review, The Kenyon Review, The Threepenny Review, and many other magazines and journals. My short stories have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize (“This Collection of Mine,” “The Hole That Dave Dug,” “My Life as Mark Wahlberg,” “A Christmas Letter”) and “Best of the Net” award (“Meat Dreams”).
A former Fulbright scholar to France, I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and an MPhil in English from Oxford University, and I spent time at Fundación Valparaíso, Spain as a Fiction Fellow. I have taught writing and literature at the University of Portland, Pacific University, the University of California, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, Gotham Writers Workshop, the University of Virginia, Portland Literary Arts, Portland State University, Oregon State University, and Pacific Northwest College of Art at Willamette University. I have also done editorial work for Zoetrope: All-Story.
